1. Check sth out

意思就是“把……查出來/弄出來”，在此片斷中提到的check the video thingout，指的就是“找一下那個(gè)video”。那么在我們的日常生活中這個(gè)短語要怎么用呢？打個(gè)比方：What are you doing here?Well, I'm here to check my bag out.（我來這兒是找我的包的。）再比如：Don't make anyhaste decisions before we check it out.（在事情調(diào)查好之前，先不要果斷下結(jié)論。）

2. Swap sth for sth

“用……換……”的意思。Can I swap the chocolate for some apples?我能用蘋果換點(diǎn)巧克力嗎？我們還要注意到另外一個(gè)短語：swap meet，雖然在此片當(dāng)中沒有提到，但是也很重要，指的就是flea market跳蚤市場(chǎng)。

3. You've never particular warmed to me.

“你從來都沒對(duì)我熱情過”，這句話不能這么翻譯，一定要反過來才可以：你一向?qū)ξ叶歼@么冷淡。舉個(gè)例子：He's never particular warmed to anybody. 他對(duì)誰都那樣，冷冰冰的。

4. I had a real search for...

Search for... 指的就是“找……”。有時(shí)候我們說 search for 會(huì)覺得語言表達(dá)得不夠生動(dòng)，為了表示強(qiáng)調(diào)，就會(huì)說Ihad a real search for...（我還真是費(fèi)了好大的力氣找了半天呢！）比如：I had a real search formy wallet. But I did that in vain. 我費(fèi)了好大的勁找我的錢包，但是還是沒找到！

5. On the right track

在理解這句話的意思之前，我們要先看一下 track 這個(gè)詞。通常情況下，track 指的是“路徑”的意思，等同于path。在英文當(dāng)中我們有這樣的表達(dá)，be on the right path 正確的道路上/已經(jīng)有了正確的選擇。on the righttrack 也是同樣的意思。在本片斷中的 We might be on the right track. 指的就是“我們也許選對(duì)了”。

6. Don't show it around.

在這里做“不要到處炫耀”解。show sb. around 常用的意思是“帶某人隨便轉(zhuǎn)轉(zhuǎn)”。比如：Since this is thefirst time I'm in the capital of China, would you like to show mearound or something? 這是我第一次到北京，你是否愿意帶我轉(zhuǎn)轉(zhuǎn)？
