1. tornado 龍卷風

這里表示“事情的旋渦”。與這個詞一類的詞匯有以下幾個：
whirlwind 旋風
hurricane 颶風
typhoon 臺風
大家不妨把這一組詞放在一起比較記憶。

2. two or three marbles rolling around upstairs 意思是go crazy in brain/head

英文中有個短語lose one's marbles，意思就是 go crazy inbrain/head。Red這里說two or three marbles rolling around upstairs是活用了loseone's marbles這個短語。

3. charter “包租”的意思，既可以做動詞，也可以做名詞

租船，包機，包車，都可以用這個詞。

4. Yellow Pages

“嚇得要命”的意思，和中文的表達是不是很相似？動詞的過去分詞+to death 表示“非常……，……要命”，例如：

I was scared to death. 我嚇得要死。
I was bored to death. 無聊死了。

6. pipe dream

非常口語化的表達，意思是：（鴉片鬼的）幻想，白日做夢，想入非非的計劃。
pipe有一個意思是“煙斗”，在這個詞組里引申為“鴉片”或者“毒品”，這種表達很形象。比如我們可以說 Stop dreaming thatpipe dream that you will become a millionaire someday without hardwork!（別成天幻想著不費勁將來就能成為百萬富翁！）
