123.比賽
Mary Lou was in low spirits, definitely in no mood for a race so important as this one.
瑪麗·羅情緒很不好，完全沒有心情參加這樣一個重要比賽。
In honor of her mother who had just passed away, however, Mary Lou decided to run.
但是，為了紀念她剛剛去世的母親，瑪麗·羅還是決定去跑。
She would not have been in hot water had she decided not to, but she was respected more because she did.
如果她決定不跑，她就不會陷入困境，但正因為她決定跑了，她贏得了更多的尊重。
The crowd cheered as she walked onto the field. The other runners shuddered in fear!
當她走向田徑場的時候，人群歡呼起來。其他選手則害怕得直打顫！
Then all the participants in the race gathered in line.
接下來所有參賽者站成一排。
In next to no time the gun went off and they were running.
很快槍聲就響了，他們開始跑了起來。
Mary Lou was in the middle; she was in no way pushing to the front.
瑪麗·羅在中間，她根本無法沖到最前面。
Suddenly she ran in high gear. She passed a racer. Another. And another.
突然，她加快了速度。她超過了一個選手，又一個選手，又一個選手。
In half a lap she was just behind the leader.
半圈之內她就成了第二名。
Then the leader seemed to stumble and did, indeed, collapse.
這時前面的選手好像要跌倒，她真的倒了。
She would be in need of medical assistance immediately.
她可能需要馬上接受治療。
Mary Lou, however, was seen jumping over the leader as she fell.
就在她倒下的時候，只見瑪麗·羅從她身上跳了過去。
In midair she looked like a gazelle! The crowd gasped!
在半空中，她看上去像只羚羊！人們倒抽了一口冷氣！
Then she landed and she was in the forefront of the crowd. The race was in hand! She won, of course!
然后她落地了，她站在了人群的最前面。比賽還在進行！她當然成了冠軍！
She accepted the microphone and said she was in luck today!
她接過麥克風，說她今天運氣真不錯！
She hoped the fallen racer was okay! The crowd cheered.
她希望倒下的那位選手安然無恙！人群歡呼起來。
They knew Mary Lou was just being polite, she would have passed that runner in no time.
他們知道瑪麗·羅是在說客氣話，她會很快超過那位選手。
Then Mary Lou said that the victory was in memory of her mother.
最后瑪麗·羅說這次勝利是為了紀念她的母親。
The crowd bowed their heads in a moment of respect.
人群充滿敬意地點了點頭。
Then they cheered as Mary Lou left the field.
瑪麗·羅離開田徑場的時候他們又歡呼起來。
