what to consider before you leap
Is there any way to redeem the job you have?
There are many reasons to hate a job. Maybe you havea terrible boss. Maybe your employerhas draconian policies about leave, orsupports a culture in which it's totally OK to call you onyour days off or evenyour vacation. Think carefully about whether you really need to leave inorderto make your day-to-day life better.
Can you get laid off, instead?
If you quit your job, generally speaking, you won'tbe entitled to unemployment. Nor, mostlikely, will your employer offer you anyseverance pay. For these reasons, it's obviouslypreferable to be laid off thanto quit. Keep your ear to the ground, and prepare to graciously volunteer astribute, if layoffs arrive.
