Many teenagers have hobbies.
許多青少年都有愛好。
But sometimes these hobbies can get in the way of schoolwork, and parents might worry about their child's success at school.
但是,有時這些愛好會影響學(xué)習(xí),父母會擔(dān)心孩子在學(xué)校的學(xué)習(xí)表現(xiàn)。
Teenagers often think they should be allowed to practice their hobbies as much as they want.
青少年經(jīng)常認(rèn)為父母應(yīng)該允許他們來進(jìn)行業(yè)余愛好。

Liu Yu, a fifteen-year-old from Shandong, is a running star.
劉宇是一名來自山東的15歲男孩,他是一名跑步明星。
He is in his school running team, and has always wanted to be a professional athlete.
他在學(xué)校的跑步隊(duì)當(dāng)中,他非常想成為一名專業(yè)運(yùn)動員。
However, his parents won't allow him to train as much as he would like to.
但是,他的父母不允許進(jìn)行大量的訓(xùn)練。
"Of course we want to see Liu Yu achieve his dreams," says Mr Liu, "and we know how much he loves running.
劉先生說我們當(dāng)然希望劉宇能夠?qū)崿F(xiàn)夢想,我們知道他多愛跑步。
That's great, and my wife and I have watched him in every one of his races.
這太好了,我和妻子觀看了他的每一場比賽。
We have nothing against running!
我們都不反對跑步!
But we do think about that our son needs to be realistic.
但是我們都認(rèn)為兒子應(yīng)該更加實(shí)際一些。
Now he is getting older, and he needs to think about what will happen if he doesn't become a professional runner in the end."
現(xiàn)在他長大了,他需要考慮到如果沒有成為專業(yè)運(yùn)動員的后果。”
Liu Yu doesn't really agree.
劉宇并不同意。
"Well, I think I should be allowed to make decisions for myself," he says.
他說,我認(rèn)為我應(yīng)該能夠自己做出決定。
"My parents have always taught me the importance of working hard and not just to do what I enjoy.
我的父母總是告訴我努力工作的重要性,所有事情并不是隨心所欲的。
I understand this. But I'm serious about running.
我明白。但是我對跑步是非常認(rèn)真的。
Being a professional runner is the only thing I have ever wanted to do."
成為專業(yè)運(yùn)動員是我唯一想做的事情。
Mr and Mrs Liu believe that Liu Yu should study hard in the evenings, and so they don't allow him to practice running on school nights.
劉先生和女士相信劉宇應(yīng)該在晚上更加努力學(xué)習(xí),要不然他們將不允許他參加晚上的訓(xùn)練。
"I know this might seem strict," says Mrs Liu, "but we think we're doing the right thing.
劉女士說我知道這或許非常嚴(yán)格,但是我們認(rèn)為我們的決定是正確的。
He has to understand that very few people can become professional athletes.
他必須明白只有少數(shù)人能夠成為專業(yè)運(yùn)動員。
It's a very difficult dream to achieve.
這是一個非常艱難的夢想。
We don't allow him to practice every day because we think he needs to spend time on his homework."
我們不允許他每天接受訓(xùn)練,因?yàn)槲覀冋J(rèn)為他應(yīng)該花一些時間在學(xué)習(xí)上。
But Liu Yu still doesn't agree.
但是劉宇還是不同意。
"I know my parents care about me," he says. "But they are always talking about what will happen if I don'tsucceed.
他說我知道父母關(guān)心我,但是他們總是跟我談?wù)摰饺绻怀晒蟮暮蠊?/p>
But I will succeed!
但是我一定要成功。
I think I should be allowed to make this decision for myself.
我認(rèn)為我應(yīng)該自己決定一些事情。
Only then will I have a chance of achieving my dream."
只有這樣我才能實(shí)現(xiàn)我的夢想。
