1. in the grip of ：受......的控制（支配）
e.g. She felt herself in the grip of sadness she could not understand.
她感到處于一種不可名狀的悲哀之中。
e.g. The whole of London was in the grip of an influenza epidemic.
流行性感冒的傳染籠罩著整個(gè)倫敦。
e.g. All China was in the grip of a deep cold outbreak.

2. at once：馬上，立刻，立即
e.g. On entering his house, we at once perceived him to be tasteful.

4. let alone：更不必說
e.g. It is cabin is uninhabitable in summer,let alone in winter.

e.g. We fear no death, let alone difficulties.

e.g. I'm so sick today that I couldn't walk as far as the kitchen, let alone go to the zoo with you.

e.g. We can't afford a bicycle, let alone a car.

5. have something in common：有共同之處
e.g. We have something in common. I have a disfunctional family too.
看來我們有些共同點(diǎn). 我的家庭也不怎么正常。
6. led sb. on：誤導(dǎo)某人
e.g. She was sorry for him because you led him on and teased him.
她同情他，因?yàn)槟阏`導(dǎo)他，玩弄他。
e.g. I accused Ethel of having led him on, of having encouraged him.
我責(zé)備埃蒂爾不應(yīng)該讓他其心不死、想入非非。
