Actress Portia de Rossi on Coming Out: 'I Didn't Want To Be Gay'

Wife of Ellen DeGeneres reveals coming to terms with sexuality was a major struggle.

Portia de Rossi, famed for her stunning looks and sparkling wit，(I mean, this, and these) is opening up in a candid interview with British TV host Amanda de Cadenet.

(You know what, I just didn't’ wanna be gay, honestly, I just didn't’ wanna be a lesbian.) De Rossi appeared on De Cadenet’s show The Conversation. In the interview she said, she never even met a lesbian and couldn’t see the possibility of living as an openly gay woman.

(So I just kind of thought, well, I don’t wanna live like this, I don't’ have to, I don’t need to.) De Rossi says some of the worst moments came during her time on hit show Ally Mcbeal, when her desire to hide her sexuality helped lead to the eating disorder, it’s on her go from 125 lbs to 82 lbs then back up 168 lbs.

(The thing that kept me company was my eating disorder.) De Rossi said she thought she’s be safe as icy professional attorney Nelle Porter, but suddenly her character was stripping off and trying to sleep with her boss, something that had made her deeply uncomfortable.

Very courageous of her, not just to be out, but to express the pain she went through earlier in her life.

The actress, now married to talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres says embracing her true self is part of what helped her regain her life and her health.

Because of people like Ellen and Portia, Kids are seeing a different world out there.

De Rossi said she finally learned her self-esteem dependent on how she looked, she was always going to be insecure, if that was the case, so she switched her focus to what she could do and say and contribute to the world.
