eBay sets up shop in New York
Online retailer eBay sets up a high-tech shop in New York. CNN's Maggie Lake finds out why.
You have this beatiful storefront for the products. Now just to be clear, it's just a storefront. There's no actual store behind this. So the way we doing this is to turn part of the glass into a touch-screen, using a cutting-edge technology. You go up; you touch the glass; you select the product you want; you schedule for one-hour delivery, which is free on you mobile device, and you pay using Paypal delivery. It's that easy.-Are consumers gonna feel weird about shopping in front of other people walking on the street?
-So part of this is about virtual reality, so if you are here and you are shopping, you're smiling and you have a great time, other consumers are gonna see you. But the moment to get anything that's identifiable, you push from the screen of your mobile device. And you finish in security of your hand. So it's all about choice. It's about giving you convience, but also it's about security.
-So it's instant. It's window shopping with instant gratification?
-We are redefining what window shopping means.
So this connect device, this is our main tool for bringing all those online matrix to you that are our fun roles. We know how many people walking by this storefront every single day in lifetime. We know they s* up and look at it, which is in pressure. We know if they touch it. We know if they buy something. We have a live data telling us how effective every single location is, and we get light our life images. Think of billboard today. It's about a black box. Who sees it? I don't know. With this you can say this people saw and it's a way of retailor engaging in the consumer in and attaching them to their billboard. It's fun that you have different views of it. You can see what different colours look like. You check out. You put your phone number. It sends a card and it's all on the mobile sites. You can access any device.
-So what consumers get out of it?
-Consumer gets choice and convience. There's a useful case that I think it's so fun. See this glass wear here? Love it, it's beautiful. The last thing I want is a busy New Yorker. It's the start of my day, get a bag, carry it around, go on the subway, go home, give it to the doorman, and that's a bad experience. I can see it. I want it. By 6 p.m. tonight, go on the subway, go on to work, when I get home, it's waiting there. It's perfect, and it's ready to go. That is all about consumers' choice.
