May 24th, 1844 Inventor Samuel Morse opens America's first telegraph line. He transmits the message “What Hath God Wrought” from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore.

1994,In New York, four men convicted of bombing the World Trade Center the year before are each sentenced to 240 years in prison. Ed Smith is the husband of one of the bombing victims.
