Unit 18 I'm fine！
第18單元 我沒事！
Farmer John was suing a trucking company for injuries sustained in an accident. The company's lawyer was questioning John.
農夫約翰因為意外事故受傷而控告一家貨運公司，該公司律師正在質問約翰。
"Didn't you say, at the scene of the accident, 'I'm fine?'" said the lawyer.
“你在車禍現場是不是說過‘我沒事’？”律師說道。
Farmer John responded, "Well, I'll tell you what happened. I had just loaded my favorite mule Bessie into the..."
農夫約翰回答：“這個嘛，事情是這樣的。那時我剛把我心愛的騾子貝西裝進...”
The lawyer interrupted again and said, "Judge, I am trying to establish the fact that, at the scene of the accident, this man told the police officer that he was just fine.
律師打斷說：“法官大人，我只是想證明一件事情，就是這個人曾在車禍現場告訴警察他沒事。”
"Now several weeks later, he is suing my client. I believe he is a fraud. Please tell him to simply answer the question."
“現在幾個月過去了，他卻控告我的當事人，我認為有詐騙的嫌疑。請法官叫原告直接回答問題。”
But the Judge was interested in Farmer John's story and said, "I'd like to hear what he has to say about his mule Bessie."
不過法官對農夫的說辭很感興趣，于是說：“我想聽聽他對騾子貝西怎么說。”
John proceeded, "Well as I was saying, I had just loaded Bessie, my favorite mule, into the trailer and was driving her down the highway when this huge semi-truck and trailer ran the stop sign and smacked my truck right in the side."
約翰繼續說道：“是這樣的。正如我剛才所說，我把我心愛的騾子貝西裝進拖車后，這輛大型半掛車便拉著拖車在公路上行駛，結果它闖過停車標志，我的拖車就這樣啪的一聲被它甩到一邊。”
"I was thrown into one ditch and Bessie was thrown into the other. I was hurting and didn't want to move. However, I could hear old Bessie moaning and groaning. I knew she was hurt."
“我摔進一條小水溝，貝西則摔倒另一條。雖然我當時因為受傷不太能動，但卻聽到老貝西的嗚咽哀鳴聲，我知道它受傷了。”
"After the accident a police officer arrived. He could hear Bessie moaning and groaning. So he went over to her. After he looked at her, he took out his gun and shot her between the eyes. Then he came across the road with his gun in his hand and looked at me."
“發生車禍后，警察就來了。他聽到貝西的呻吟聲后便過去看看它怎么樣，結果看了以后便掏出槍，超貝西兩眼中間開了一槍把它給斃了。接著他拿著槍，到馬路另一邊來看我。”
"He remarked, 'Your mule was in such bad shape I had to shoot her. How are you feeling?'"
“他說：‘你的騾子傷得很嚴重，我不得不開槍了結它。你還好嗎？’”
