Meaning: I had hardly awakened when the tune flew away and I could not remember any part of the tune.
awake: v. cause to stop sleeping, wake
Please pay special attention to its past tense and past particle in the following:
awake, awoke, awoke; or awake, awoke, awaken
When we express the idea of one thing happening immediately after another, we can use "hardly,' 'scarcely," followed by "when."
Scarcely had he arrived when he had to leave again.
他剛剛到達就又得走了。
Scarcely had he entered the room when the phone rang.
我剛一進屋電話鈴就響了。
Hardly had I arrived when I had a new problem to deal with.
我剛到,就有新的問題要處理了。
