Part One: Old Gray Runners
第一部分：灰色舊跑鞋
Krista was wearing a pair of runners.
克里絲特穿著一雙跑鞋。
"I don't like this pair anymore.
“我不再喜歡這雙鞋了。
They're old and gray," she said to her friend Peter.
它們又舊又灰，”她對朋友彼得說。
"You could paint them," said Peter.
“你可以給它們涂上顏色，”彼得說。
"Like you painted your arm green?" she laughed.
“就像你把手臂染成綠色一樣？”她笑了。
But she thought, "He's right. I could."
但是她又想：“他是對的。我可以這樣做。”
She went home. She got out her markers and paints.
她回了家。拿出水彩筆和染料。
She drew yellow circles on her runners.
她用水彩筆在跑鞋上畫了黃色的圓圈。
She painted green lines below the circles.
在圓圈下方涂上了綠線條。
The circles and lines looked like flowers!
這些圓圈和線條看起來像花一樣！
The next day, Krista wore her runners to school.
第二天，克里絲特穿著她那雙跑鞋去上學。
"See?" she said to Peter.
“看到了嗎？”她對彼得說。
"That's different!" he said. "I like them."
“大有不同啊！”他說，“我很喜歡。”
But then Gina walked into the classroom.
但是這時吉娜走進了教室。
Krista didn't like Gina very much.
克里絲特很不喜歡吉娜。
Gina always had the best clothes.
吉娜總是有最好的衣服。
Gina was wearing a new dress.
吉娜穿著一條新裙子。
It was made of blue cotton.
是由藍色棉線做的。
Her backpack was the same colour!
她的背包也是同樣的顏色！
She looked like someone from a movie.
她像是電影中某個人物。
Gina looked at Krista's feet.
吉娜看了看克里絲特的雙腳。
"What did you do to your runners?" she asked.
她問道：“你把你的跑鞋怎么樣了？”
Her voice was loud. "They look silly."
她大聲地說道：“它們看起來樣子很蠢。”
Her classmates laughed.
同學們都笑起來。
Krista could not think of an answer.
克里絲特想不出來如何回答她。
Her feet felt bigger than a kangaroo's.
她的腳讓人覺得比袋鼠的還要大。
She wanted to cry. Poor Krista!
她想哭。可憐的克里絲特！
