Meaning: Judging from the way most people look at you, you would think that a trashman was no human but a huge, ugly animal.
Notice that "the way" introduces a clause.
The way he works, you'd think he is a master. 看他工作的樣子，你會以為他是個專家。
monster: strange usually large and frightening animal
A cow with two heads is a real monster. 長著兩個頭的牛真是個怪物。
