Unit 22 Free Ride
第22單元 免費(fèi)火車
Three engineers and three mathematicians are traveling by train to a conference. At the station, the three mathmaticians each buy tickets and watch as the three engineers buy only a single ticket.
三個(gè)工程師和三個(gè)數(shù)學(xué)家一起坐火車去參加會(huì)議。到了車站，三個(gè)數(shù)學(xué)家每人各買了一張票，卻看到三個(gè)工程師只買了一張票。
"How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" asks a mathmatician. "Watch and you'll see," answers the engineer.
“三個(gè)人只買一張票要怎么坐火車啊？”其中一名數(shù)學(xué)家問(wèn)道。“等會(huì)你就知道了。”其中一名工程師回答。
They all board the train. The mathmaticians take their respective seats, but all three engineers cram into a restroom and close the door behind them.
他們?nèi)可匣疖囍螅瑪?shù)學(xué)家各自找到位子，三個(gè)工程師卻擠進(jìn)廁所，把身后的門給關(guān)上。
Shortly after the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He koncks on the restroom door and says, "Ticket, please."
火車開動(dòng)后不久，車長(zhǎng)便來(lái)收票。他敲了敲廁所的門說(shuō)：“車票，麻煩一下。”
The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
廁所門只打開一條縫，一只手拿了票伸了出來(lái)。車長(zhǎng)車票一拿便繼續(xù)往前走。
The mathmaticians see this and agree it is quite a clever idea, so after the conferrnce, they decide to copy the engineers on the return trip and save some money (being clever with money,and all that.)
數(shù)學(xué)家們看了都覺(jué)得這個(gè)點(diǎn)子真是聰明，會(huì)議結(jié)束后，便決定回程時(shí)學(xué)工程師，替自己省點(diǎn)錢（遇到和錢有關(guān)的事情，人自然就精明起來(lái)。）
When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. To their astonishment, the engineers don't buy a ticket at all.
到了車站，他們只買了一張回程票，但讓他們驚訝的是，工程師們連一張票都沒(méi)買。
"How are you going to travel without a ticket?" asks one perplexd mathmatician.
“你們沒(méi)有票要怎么回去？”其中一名一頭霧水的數(shù)學(xué)家問(wèn)道。
"Watch and you'll see," answers an engineer.
“等會(huì)你就知道了。”其中一名工程師回答。
When they board the train, the three mathmaticians cram into one restroom and the three engineers cram into another one nearby.
大伙兒上火車之后，三個(gè)數(shù)學(xué)家便擠進(jìn)廁所里，而三個(gè)工程師則擠到旁邊另一間廁所。
The train departed, shortly afterward, one of the engineers leaves his room and walks over to the restroom where the mathmaticians are hiding. He knocks on the door and says,"Ticket, please."
火車開動(dòng)后不久，其中一名工程師便從廁所出來(lái)走到數(shù)學(xué)家藏身的廁所，敲了敲門說(shuō)道：“車票，麻煩一下。”
