The French luxury house Hermès is known for its play-hard-to-get sales tactics — it will only sell its coveted Birkin bag to customers with “a sufficient purchase history.”
Rumor has it that if you want to buy a Birkin, you can’t just go into a store and flat-out purchase one. Instead, you must develop a close relationship with their sales associate and work your way up to eventually procuring the handbag by purchasing other items from the brand, first.
But now, two shoppers in California have put their foot down. They’re taking Hermès to court over claims that the design house forces clients to jump through very pricey hoops in order to earn the opportunity to purchase one of the bags.
