Charlie Munger – the witty polymath and right-hand man to Warren Buffett – has passed away just a month shy of becoming a centenarian. He was known for his unvarnished advice on life.

He said earlier this year that success can hinge on the company you keep. Toxic people can hinder someone's path to success, he advised.

"The great lesson of life is get them the hell out of your life — and do it fast," Munger said of toxic people.

"It's so simple to spend less than you earn, and invest shrewdly, and avoid toxic people and toxic activities, and try and keep learning all your life, and do a lot of deferred gratification," Munger said at the annual meeting of Berkshire Hathaway in Omaha in May.
