二、文章講解
I arrived in London at last. The railway station was big, black and dark. I did not know the way to my hotel, so I asked a porter. I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me. I repeated my question several times and at last he understood. he answered me, but he spoke neither slowly nor clearly. 'I am a foreigner,' I said. Then he spoke slowly, but I could not understand him. My teacher never spoke English like that! The porter and I looked at each other and smiled. Then he said something and I understood it. 'You'll soon learn English!' he said. I wonder. In England, each person speaks a different language. The English understand each other, but I don't understand them! Do they speak English?

1）arrive/reach/get
arrive at/in + 地點
reach + 地點
get to + 地點
例：Give me a call when you get home. 到家后給我打個電話。
例：When I got to London, I felt like I was in a totally new world. 當我到倫敦的時候，我覺得我在一個完全嶄新的世界。

2) the way to + 地點
例：Could you please tell me the way to the nearest subway station? 你可以跟我說一下怎么去最近的地鐵站嗎？
3) The railway station was big, black and dark
并列關系的語調：升，升，升，…. 最后一個降調。
例句：I have many hobbies in my spare time, like fishing, jogging ,watching a movie or justreading a novel in my room. 我業余時間有很多愛好。比如我會釣魚，慢跑，看電影或者在房間里面靜靜的看本小說。

2.I not only spoke English very carefully, but very clearly as well. The porter, however, could not understand me.
1) not only….but also… = not only….but….as well 不僅…而且…
改：I not only spoke English very carefully, but also very clearly.
2)說某種語言speak + 語言； speak to someone 跟某人說話
例：May I speak to Peter? 皮特在嗎？
例：Can I speak to you for a minute? 我能找你一下嗎？
3）However 和 but 都表示轉折。區別however 后面一定要加逗號。
