In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less, a 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in front of him.
故事發(fā)生在當(dāng)一份圣代冰激凌比今天便宜得多的日子里，一個(gè)10歲的小男孩走進(jìn)了一家咖啡館并找了個(gè)桌坐下了。服務(wù)員為他端上了一杯水。
"How much is an ice cream sundae?"
"一份圣代冰激凌多少錢？"小男孩問(wèn)。
"Fifty cents," replied the waitress.
"50美分。"服務(wù)員回答道。
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and studied a number of coins in it. "How much is a dish of plain ice cream?" he required.
小男孩把手從兜里拿了出來(lái)，認(rèn)證地?cái)?shù)著手里的許多枚硬幣。"那一份普通冰激凌多少錢？"小男孩詢問(wèn)道。
Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was a bit impatient."Thirty-five cents," she said rudely. The little boy again counted the coins. "I'll have the plain ice cream," he said.
服務(wù)員變得有些不耐煩了。"35美分"她答道。小男孩再次數(shù)了數(shù)手中的硬幣。"給我來(lái)份普通冰激凌吧。" 小男孩說(shuō)。

The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished the ice cream, paid the bill and departed.
服務(wù)員端上了冰激凌，將賬單放在桌子上后就走開(kāi)了。小男孩吃完了冰激凌，把錢付給了收銀員后，離開(kāi)了。
When the waitress came back, she began wiping down the table and then swallowed hard at what she saw.
當(dāng)服務(wù)員回來(lái)開(kāi)始擦那個(gè)桌子的時(shí)候，為她眼前所看到的感到難以置信。
There, placed nearly beside the empty dish, were two five-cent coins and five one-cent coins---her tip.

就在那盤子旁邊，整齊的擺放著15美分，那是小男孩留給她的小費(fèi)！
