Well, sometimes a tooth that has been treated endodontically will become infected or develop a cyst.

It doesn't always mean that the tooth will have to be extracted. It can usually be treated successfully by performing an apicoectomy.

Apicoectomy is the removal of a very small Part of the infected root tip.
齒根尖切除就是要將受到感染的根梢的一個非常小的部分切除掉。
Another Part of the treatment is to remove the infected (or cystic) tissue from the jaw-bone surrounding the root.
另外，還要將牙根周圍頜骨受感染的組織切除掉。
And what is needed for this?

Sometimes a retrograde silver amalgam filling is needed to seal the small opening in the root tip to be sure that the tooth won't become infected again.

An incision is made in the gum just above the tooth at the level of the root tip.
