for the nonce 臨時(shí)

【講解】

最初在中世紀(jì)的英語(yǔ)中，有條成語(yǔ)for than ane先演變成for than anes,以后變成for the nonce,然后又變成for the nanes,那時(shí)意思是 for the one (thing, occasion)„ 最后才變成 目前的形式。但在中世紀(jì)的詩(shī)中，只作為押韻的疊句，沒(méi)有具體的意思;到十六世紀(jì)末才具有for the time being (“暫時(shí)”或“臨時(shí)”） 的意思。例如:You can use the little room as a studio for the nonce.(你可把這個(gè)小房間， 姑且當(dāng)作工作室。）
