首先，最直截了當?shù)淖匀痪褪荢b. is short了。不過這種說法很直接，有時候難免傷到人，所以，稍許委婉些的說法是：Sb. is on the short side.如果說的對象是嬌小的女孩子我們還可以用 petite. If you describe a woman as petite, you are politely saying that she is small and is not fat. 身材嬌小。比如說：

She shivered again from the cold — and the disgust — as she watched him kiss the petite blonde.
看著他親吻嬌小的金發(fā)女郎，她再次打顫了，因為冷，也因為惡心。

最后，我們再來看一種相當委婉的說法，叫vertically challenged，也是個子矮的意思。什么什么 challenged 就是說有某方面的障礙, 比如 mentally challenged 就是有心智障礙, 說白了就是精神有問題；intellectually challenged 就是“stupid”；而directionally challenged就是“路癡”。這樣的說法呢注意到了political correctness。所謂的 political correctness 就是為了不傷害或得罪某一族群的人, 在用辭上加以修飾, 讓它聽來不具有歧視性。比如用differently abled來指代殘疾人士。
