sequence n. 順序；連續；次序
We will deal with the events in historical sequence.
我們將按照歷史上的先后順序研究這些事件。

He had to attend a sequence of meetings.

in sequence依次，逐一
He described the events of that day in sequence.

Please keep the cards in sequence; don't mix them up.

Sequence還可以作動詞，意思是“按順序排好”。

現在我們來學習另外一個單詞，sequence之前加上con，consequence表示“結果；后果；重要性；影響 ”。把這兩個單詞記到一起，我們來組一個短語:the consequence of a sequence of events 一系列事件的后果。現在我們來學習consequence常用的短語表達：
in consequence of 由于；因為
In consequence of your bad work I am forced to dismiss you.
由于你的工作很糟，我不得不把你解雇。
in consequence of 因此，結果，相當于as a result
She studied hard, and in consequence she passed the examination.
她努力學習,結果通過了考試。
It rained yesterday and in consequence the match was canceled.

of consequence 重要，有意義的
He is a man of consequence in the Labor Party.
他是工黨中舉足輕重的人物。
Changes in the tax law are of consequence to all investors.

answer for the consequences 對后果負責
answer for 因……而受罰；對……負責
You should answer for the consequences
你應該對后果負責。
If you go on doing this, we won't answer for the consequences.

承擔后果還有一個常見的表達是：take the consequence。
