Runaway bosses就是指的“跑路老板”。“跑路”的說法來自于臺灣地區，臺語念作“走路”，寫做中文字即是“跑路”，一般指做了壞事而被警察通緝，也可能是遇到危難（如欠錢、負債等)）被黑道份子追殺或者被地下錢莊等追討金錢，而不得不逃走。Runaway用作名詞就可以指“逃跑者”。類似的說法還有runaway child（出走的孩子），runaway horse（脫韁之馬）。

Runaway還可以形容發展迅猛的、(物價)飛漲的，比如runaway inflation（失控的通貨膨脹）。最近《喬布斯傳》出版后非常暢銷，我們就可以說它是runaway best-seller（搶手的暢銷書）。Runaway在這里的意思是“遙遙領先的”。
