世界遺產委員會(World Heritage Committee)對西湖的評價是：“數百年來，西湖景區對中國其他地區乃至日本和韓國的園林設計都產生了影響，在景觀營造的文化傳統中，西湖是對天人合一這一理想境界的最佳闡釋。”

　　杭州西湖景色那確實是美不勝收。下面就來看看大名鼎鼎的“西湖十景”(Ten Scenes of West Lake)的英文說法。

　　西湖十景之名源出南宋山水畫，當時的文人詩詞也多有提及。雖然在20世紀和21世紀杭州曾兩次評選了“新西湖十景”，不過最為人知曉和承認的還是最初的十景：

　　蘇堤春曉：Dawn on the Su Causeway in Spring

　　曲院風荷：Wine-making Yard and Lotus Pool in Summer

　　平湖秋月：Moon over the Peaceful Lake in Autumn

　　斷橋殘雪：Remnant Snow on the Bridge in Winter

　　柳浪聞鶯：Orioles Singing in the Willows

　　花港觀魚：Fish Viewing at the Flower Pond

　　雙峰插云：Two Peaks Piercing the Clouds
