A nobleman and a merchant once met in a restaurant.
一天一名貴族和一個(gè)商人在一家飯店相遇。
They both ordered soup.
他們都點(diǎn)了湯。
When it was brought,the nobleman took it first,
當(dāng)湯被端上來時(shí),貴族先端走了,
but it was so hot that he burned his mouth and
但是湯特別燙,燙傷了他的舌頭
tears came to his eyes.
把他的眼淚也燙了出來。
The merchant asked him why he was weeping.
商人問他為什么哭。
The nobleman was ashamed to admit that he had
貴族覺得承認(rèn)是湯燙的很丟臉
burned his mouth and answered
于是他回答到
Sir I once had a brother who committed a crime
先生,我曾經(jīng)有一個(gè)哥哥,他犯了罪
and he was hanged.
被絞死了
I was thinking of his death
我剛才想到了他的死
and that made me weep.
便哭了起來
The merchant believed his story and began to eat his soup.
商人相信了這個(gè)故事,并開始喝湯了。
He too burned himself so he had tears in his eyes.
他也被燙出了眼淚。
The nobleman noticed it and asked him why.
貴族發(fā)現(xiàn)后問他原因。
The merchant now know the truth and he answered:
商人這時(shí)知道了真相回答道:
My Goodman
我的大人
I am weeping because you were not hanged
我哭是因?yàn)槟銢]有和你的哥哥
together with your brother.
