A sophomore at Colorado State University first had a problem in taking tests when she began college. She said that she was well prepared for her tests. Sometimes she studied for weeks before a test. Yet she would go in to take the test, only to find she could not answer the questions correctly. [26]She would blank out because of nervousness and fear. She couldn't think of the answer. In fact, what the student was experiencing is called test anxiety. [26]Because the student worries and is uneasy about a test, her mind does not work as well as it usually does. The student cannot write or think clearly because of extreme tension and nervousness. Although poor grades are often a result of poor study habits, sometimes test anxiety causes the low grades. Recently, test anxiety has been recognized as a real problem, not just an excuse or a false explanation of lazy students.

Students are trained to become calm in very tense situations.
