Passage 1
Different Colors can affect us in many different ways; that's according to Verity Allen.(1)In her new series Color Me Healthy,Verity looks at the ways that colors can influence how hard we work and the choices we make. They can even change our emotions and even influence how healthy we are.(Verity 在她的Color Me Healthy一書(shū)中主要探討了顏色如何影響人們,包括顏色對(duì)人們工作努力程度的影響、對(duì)人們做出選擇的影響、對(duì)人們情緒的影響,顏色甚至能影響到人們的健康。)
"Have you ever noticed how people always use the same colors for the same things?" says Verity.(2)"Our toothpaste is always white or blue or maybe red. It's never green. Why not? For some reason we think that blue and white is clean, while we think of green products as being a bit disgusting.(為什么我們用的牙膏通常是藍(lán)色、白色或紅色的而不是綠色的呢?因?yàn)槿藗円话阏J(rèn)為藍(lán)色和白色很干凈,而綠色則有點(diǎn)兒讓人感到厭惡。)It's the same for businesses.(3)We respect a company which writes its name in blue or black, but we don't respect one that uses pink or orange.(那些用黑色或藍(lán)色寫(xiě)公司名稱(chēng)的公司往往會(huì)得到人們的尊重,而用粉色或橙色寫(xiě)自己名稱(chēng)的公司就得不到人們的尊重。)People who design new products can use these ideas to influence what we buy.
During this four-part series, Verity studies eight different colors, two colors in each program. She meets people who work in all aspects of the color industry, from people who design food packets,to people who name the colors of lipsticks. Some of the people she meets clearly have very little scientific knowledge to support their ideas. However, she also interviews real scientists who are studying the effects of green and red lights on mice, with some surprising results.
