A Chinese envoy is urging the U.S. to lift all illegal sanctions against Iran and its "long-arm jurisdiction" against third-party entities and individuals, including those from China.

A US scientist says vaccinations and precautions can help stop the rise of new COVID-19 cases driven by new variants.
Dr. Wafaa El-Sadr is a professor of epidemiology at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health.
She says authorities need to quickly upscale vaccinations and transmission prevention efforts to curb a spike in infections.
"We just have not had sufficient uptake, sufficient coverage by these new vaccines in the context of these new variants that are now circulating in our communities. I anticipate fully that as we get more people vaccinated over time and hopefully rapidly vaccinated, that we will see eventually a decrease in the numbers of new cases."
