President Xi Jinping says China's economy has the hope and potential to maintain long-term stable development.
He made the remarks in a speech on the CPC Central Committee's proposals for formulating the 14th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.
Xi Jinping says it is "completely possible" for China to meet the current standards for high-income countries by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period, which spans from 2021 to 2025, and to double the total economic volume or per capita income by 2035.
The leader, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, says there will be many unstable and uncertain factors in the external environment in the coming period as many risks and hidden dangers may impact domestic economic development.
He says the medium- and long-term goals should pay more attention to economic structure optimization in order to guide all parties and focus work on improving the quality and efficiency of development.
Xinjiang has confirmed two new COVID-19 cases and over 110 asymptomatic ones.
The two confirmed cases were re-categorized from asymptomatic carriers.
All of the new asymptomatic cases are among those under isolated medical observation in Kashgar.
Currently, Xinjiang has 64 confirmed cases and hundreds of asymptomatic ones.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has decided to extend its social distancing restrictions for another week.
Chief Executive Carrie Lam says the situation in Hong Kong has not seen a better turn.
"We noticed that there were many gatherings last weekend due to some kind of easing of social distancing measures. With the arrival of autumn and winter, more gatherings for hot pot dinners were seen. In order to get the normal social life back as early as possible, and inject some driving forces into the economy of Hong Kong by means of customs reopening, every resident should continue to hold on to the social distancing measures."

The UK has raised its terror threat level from "substantial" to "severe" following recent attacks in Austria and France.
This is its second-highest threat level, which means that an attack is considered highly likely.
