Imagine if take out supper from restaurants in your town was free, yes, free. It's real good. It's easy. In Brattleboro, Vermont, the cars line up four evenings a week to pick up meals prepared by local chefs. How close did you come to losing your business or just quitting? It was close. There were some tough conversations about what the plan would be. To the rescue, a state plan that cleverly stretches federal CARES Act cash, paying restaurants to feed food insecure Vermonters.
I've had conversations with restaurant owners who are crying over the phone of how much this means to them. Local farmers reap the benefit too. My husband read something about it in the paper and was like, we gotta contact those restaurants and get some of them buying again. Which they have and for weary families no need for a reservation for some of the best food in town. This is just a big big help. How big a shot in the arm is this for Brattleboro? This is huge for Brattleboro and i also think that it is huge for the feeling of community that COVID took away from us. Enjoy your dinner. Yep, huge.
