《速度與激情》系列為何能火18年？
When The Fast and the Furious debuted in 2001, it seemed unlikely that the movie would be the opening chapter of one of the greatest successful stories of contemporary movies.
當電影《速度與激情》于2001年首映時，似乎沒人會想到它會成為現代電影一大成功故事的開篇之作。
The series' first spin-off, The Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw (2019), hit Chinese mainland cinemas on Aug 23. It topped the box office on its first day and reached 700 million yuan in three days.
該系列電影的首部外傳《速度與激情：特別行動》已于8月23日登陸國內院線。這部電影上映首日便高踞票房榜首，在三天之內收獲7億票房。
"The franchise seems to keep its charm as time flows," says one review at Yahoo News.

What makes the franchise so popular?
這一系列為何會如此受歡迎呢？
According to UK film critic Rhianna Dhillon, the success of the series is down to its universal appeal.
英國影評人蕾哈娜·迪隆認為，該系列的成功來自于其普遍的吸引力。
"They're films people of all ages can enjoy... children and adults alike are quite happy to watch things get blown up and smashed up," she told BBC.

Unlike other film franchises, The Fast and Furious series isn't trying to compete with heavy and complex storylines. Instead, it's a visual feast. The films show the latest supercars, amazing technology, and daring stunts, like parachuting from planes at high altitude. People enjoy these "simple" visual sensations without any questions.

Apart from the pure joy of watching fast cars and explosions, the diversity of the cast helps the audience see themselves on screen.

The franchise features male and female heroes drawn from every major ethnic group in the US: Latino, African-American and Asian. The multicultural cast is much like its audience, so everyone can see someone like him or herself on screen.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the film franchise is doing a much better job of reflecting its audience than others in Hollywood.

As US actor Vin Diesel, one of the series' stars, told Entertainment Weekly: "It doesn't matter what nationality you are. As a member of the audience, you realize you can be a member of that 'family'. That's the beautiful thing about how the franchise has developed."
