Senior CPC official exchanges views with U.S. lawmakers on bilateral ties

A senior Chinese official says China highly values the development of its relations with the United States.
Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC)'s Central Committee, discussed China-U.S. ties with some U.S. congressmen in Washington.
He says China is willing to work with the United States to implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries so as to enhance strategic mutual trust, maintain close high-level communications and deepen bilateral cooperation.
China launches joint patrols along the Mekong River with neighbors

Chinese police have started joint patrols with their counterparts from Laos, Myanmar and Thailand to maintain security along the Mekong River, a major transport passage in the region.
The joint patrol marked the restoration of international shipping services on the Mekong River that had been suspended since deadly attacks on Chinese cargo ships on Oct. 5.

Tens of thousands of Russians went to the streets Saturday to demonstrate against alleged fraud in last Sunday's parliamentary elections.
Russian media reported that the nationwide wave of protests started in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok and was expected to end in the westernmost exclave of Kaliningrad.
The biggest demonstration has been staged in Moscow where the city's authorities gave permission for a 30,000-people rally.
During the four-hour demonstration, no clashes were reported.
Light plane crashes near Philippine capital, killing 13

The November imports rose 22 percent year-on-year to some160 billion U.S. dollars, while exports increased 13 percent from a year earlier to over 174billion U.S. dollars.

A senior government official has urged authorities to "strengthen the construction and management of online culture" and work to foster a "healthy and positive" online environment.
Wang Chen, head of China's State Internet Information Office, made the remarks at a two-day national meeting that ended on Saturday.
He told the participants to use "more forceful and effective measures" to build and manage cyber culture and propel the development of cyber culture in a "healthy and orderly" way.
He urged the officials to use the Internet to guide public opinions and promote positive social values.
