On November 24, President-elect Joe Biden tweeted "the election is over." Since then day, he has not directly mentioned Donald Trump.
On his Twitter account, Biden has shared a Thanksgiving message, pledged to tackle the COVID pandemic and promised that his incoming administration will "build back better," but direct references to the outgoing president are conspicuous by their absence.
The last time Biden named Trump in a tweet was seven days ago, when he criticized the outgoing president for his failure to concede the election despite a defeat at the polls, multiple states certifying their results and the transition process starting.
The same can not be said of Trump's Twitter activity, with Biden being mentioned on the president's account at least 15 times since November 24, either directly by name or via posts from other users that were retweeted to his 88.8 million followers.
Since losing to his Democrat opponent, Trump has continued to challenge the results of the 2020 election, claiming without evidence that the voting process was fraudulent or that the machines used to count ballots had somehow been manipulated.
His campaign launched a series of legal attempts that sought to alter the outcome of the popular vote, a tactic that has so far proven ineffective. On Monday, the state of Arizona was the latest to certify its results, further formalizing Biden's victory.
With his tweets referencing Biden, Trump has largely appeared fixated on the number of votes his rival was able to attract. CBS News reported that Biden surpassed 80 million votes, which thanks to a record turnout was the most in U.S. history.
Trump wrote on November 27: "Biden can only enter the White House as President if he can prove his ridiculous '80,000,000 votes' were not fraudulently or illegally obtained." The same day, he alleged swing states Biden won were politically corrupt.
While direct references to President Trump have been non-existent over the past week, Biden has made a series of indirect nods towards how his administration will be different to what America has experienced throughout the past four years.
"It's time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, and listen to each other again. To make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. We are not enemies. We are Americans," Biden tweeted on November 29.
Trump was not mentioned by name in Biden's Thanksgiving address on November 25, either, although Biden did promise a "grim season of division" was ending.
According to a transcript of Trump's remarks during a Thanksgiving teleconference with members of the military, where he was questioned by reporters, the president was once again laser-focused on Biden's collection of more than 80 million votes.
"If you look at the numbers, the numbers are false. The numbers are corrupt. It was a rigged election—100 percent—and people know it," Trump had falsely claimed.
