When the pan had cooled, the monk and the boy looked at it, dazzled.

The lead had dried into the shape of the pan, but it was no longer lead. It was gold.

"Will I learn to do that someday?" the boy asked.

"This was my personal legend, not yours," the alchemist answered. "But I wanted to show you that it was possible."

They returned to the gates of the monastery. There, the alchemist separated the disk into four parts.
他們走到修道院門口。在那里，煉金術(shù)士把金子分成了四塊。
"This is for you," he said, holding one of the parts out to the monk. "It's for your generosity to the pilgrims."
“這塊給你，”他邊說邊把其中一塊遞給修士，“因?yàn)槟銓Υ啡耸挚犊??！?/div>

"But this payment goes well beyond my generosity," the monk responded.
“我得到的報(bào)酬遠(yuǎn)甚于我的慷慨?！毙奘炕卮?。
"Don't say that again. Life might be listening, and give you less the next time."
“永遠(yuǎn)別再這么說。生活會聽在耳內(nèi)，下一次就會少給你?！?/p>
The alchemist turned to the boy. "This is for you. To make up for what you gave to the general."
然后，他走到男孩跟前?！斑@塊給你，就當(dāng)償還你留給那指揮官的金幣。”
The boy was about to say that it was much more than he had given the general.
男孩想說這比他留下的錢多多了。
But he kept quiet, because he had heard what the alchemist said to the monk.
但沒有開口，因?yàn)閯偛潘牭搅藷捊鹦g(shù)士對修士說的話。
"And this is for me," said the alchemist, keeping one of the parts.
“這一塊是給我自己的，”煉金術(shù)士邊說邊收起一塊，
"Because I have to return to the desert, where there are tribal wars."
“因?yàn)槲冶仨毚┻^沙漠返回，而那里的部落之間正在發(fā)生戰(zhàn)爭?！?/div>
He took the fourth part and handed it to the monk. "This is for the boy. If he ever needs it."
然后，他拿起第四塊金子，再次遞給修士?！斑@一塊是留給這個(gè)男孩的，如果將來他需要?！?/div>
"But I'm going in search of my treasure," the boy said. "I'm very close to it now."
“但是，我要去尋找我的財(cái)寶，現(xiàn)在離財(cái)寶已經(jīng)很近了?！蹦泻⒄f。
"And I'm certain you'll find it," the alchemist said.
“我相信你一定能找到?！睙捊鹦g(shù)士說。
"Then why this?" "Because you have already lost your savings twice. Once to the thief, and once to the general.
“那您這么做又是為什么呢？”“因?yàn)槟阋呀?jīng)兩次失去了旅途中掙的錢，一次是受騙上當(dāng)，一次是給了別人。

They mounted their horses.
