The man who is aware of himself is henceforth independent

Once conform, once do what other people do finer than they do it
一旦循規(guī)蹈矩，一旦人為亦為
And a lethargy steals over all the finer nerves and faculties of the soul,
呆滯就籠罩著靈魂中一切靈敏的神經(jīng)和官能
He becomes all outer show and inward emptiness
靈魂變得徒有其表，其中空空
Dull, callous, and indifferent
遲鈍，木然，冷漠。
