Tom asked Sam，"Can you lend me fifty bucks?" "I only have forty，"Sam replied. Tom said, "Give me the forty and you can owe me ten."

lend指“借(出V. borrow指“借（人）”，它們的用法不同， lend 的主語是貸方，如：Tom lent me this book. = Tom lent this book to me.湯姆借這本書給我。而borrow的主語是借方， 如：I borrowed this book from Tom.我向湯姆借這本書。另有 一個用法與borrow相同的詞是loan,它可以當名同及動詞使用，當動詞使用時，用法同borrow。

2. "I only have forty，"Sam replied.
山姆回答說：“我只有40。”

3. Tom said, "Give me the forty and you can owe me ten."

句中的 “you owe me ten"也可以寫成 “you owe ten to me",而欠別人哪方面的錢，則可加“for sth”，如：He owed me nine hundred dollars for the sweater.他欠我 900元的毛衣錢。
