12.Last Requests

A murderer, sitting in the electric chair, was about to be executed.

A chaplain asked, "Do you have any last requests?"

The murderer replied, "Yes，please hold my hand."

有一個坐在電椅上的殺人犯即將被處決。

"be about to + v."是指“即將做...”，如：I was about to go to bed when he came home.他回家的時候我正要上床睡覺。而"be not about to + v."是指“沒有意愿做…、不打算做…”， 如：I'm not about to attend the party.我不打算去參加這個舞會。

現(xiàn)今美國只有很少數(shù)的幾個州仍以電椅處決人犯，這種刑罰被認(rèn)為是殘忍的，所以多以注射毒藥取代。
