A little boy told his dad he flunked his math test.

The father asked his son why.

The kid replied, "The math whiz who sits next to me was absent on the day of the test."

"flunk"除了表“(考試)不及格”，還可以表示“通不過(考試等）、（某學科)沒通過、因成績差而被退學(flunk out)。

小孩因答：“坐在我旁邊的教學高手在考認那天缺席了。”

"next"當形容詞時，表“隔壁的，旁邊的”不需再加介詞，如：the next house隔壁家；但在這里，用于說明人或物是在隔壁或旁邊時，則須加介詞to,如：The house is next to mine.這房子在我家隔壁。"mine"是名詞性物主代詞，在這里表示my house。
