一.terrible：adj. 可怕的，極度的，糟糕的
【詞義辨析】
afraid, fearful, awful, dreadful, frightful, terrible, horrible, terrific, appalling,
afraid: 指由于膽小或怯懦而不敢說或做某事。
fearful: 普通用詞，既指外界情況變化而引起的恐懼，又指來自內心的害怕與焦慮。
awful: 指威嚴得令人害怕或敬畏，有一定的感情色彩。
dreadful: 指使人非常恐懼，毛骨悚然，也使人感到討厭而退縮。
frightful: 指使人陷入短暫的驚恐或產(chǎn)生毛骨悚然的感覺。
terrible: 側重指給人以長久的驚駭，極端的恐怖，令人難以忍受。
horrible: 指因駭人聽聞的丑惡而令人毛骨悚然，著重厭惡的成分多于害怕。
terrific: 多指外表、形狀或力量等的可怕。
appalling: 指既令害怕又使人驚異、膽寒。

二.attention：n. 注意，注意力，照料，留心，關懷，(口令)立正
【詞語用法】
1.一般來說，要表達引起某人對某事的注意時，用call/draw one's attention to。表示用某事引起某人注意時，用bring the matter to one's attention，注意兩者不可倒過來使用。
He wants to call her attention to the matter.
他想引起她對這事情的注意。
不可以說I want to bring his attention to the matter.
2.pay attention to是固定的搭配詞組，不可以用其他介詞替換，如pay attention on。除了指“注意”，pay attention to還指“向女子獻殷勤”，如pay his
attentions to the girl.要注意his后的attentions用的是復數(shù)形式；
3.有時候pay attention to后不直接加賓語，而是加動名詞，to作為介詞。
I advise you to pay more attention to recording new uses of old words.
我建議你要更注意記錄舊詞的新用法。
4.為引起大機關或大商店的某人或某部門注意，在寫信時可在稱呼語后面或后面的下一行或兩行加Attention of ...，如Attention of Accounting Department。
