Since the modern Olympics were revived in 1896, the Olympic Games have grown into a more dazzling exhibition with each successive occurrence. From the Greek victory in the first Olympic marathon to Hicham El Guerrouj's double-victory in 2004, athletes in distance events have gained success in a variety of ways. For the shot put, discus, javelin, long distance running and high jump, athletes have gained glory through combinations of speed, strength and endurance. Any completion of such an event series is impressive. Today “Science in the Olympic Games” shows how the athletes are becoming faster and going the distance.
