Hearing Aid

A woman rushed into the post office and wanted to see the supervisor.

I asked, “What’s the trouble?”

“I went out this morning,” she began, “and when I came home I found a card saying the mailman tried to deliver a package but no one was home. My husband was in all morning. He never heard a thing!”

After apologizing, I got her the parcel. “Oh, good,” she gushed. “we’ve been waiting for this for ages.”

“What is it?” I asked.

“My husband’s new hearing aid.”

一位婦女沖進郵局，要見負責人。我問她：“出了什么問題？”

【詞匯講解】

1.supervisor負責人。具體說來，supervisor可以指很多種職務，比如“（政府）指導者、管理人”、“鎮長、區長”、“（學校）視導員”、“（鐵路）工務段線路主任”。billing supervisor票據管理員；sales supervisor銷售監管；line supervisor生產線主管。

2. mailman郵遞員。這是美式英語中“郵遞員”的說法，而在英式英語中，“郵遞員”是postman.
