【詞匯講解】

1.sustain vt. 承受，支持，經受，維持

如：The court sustained his claim that the contract was illegal.
法庭確認他的要求正當，宣布該合同不合法。

Hope alone sustained him in his struggle.
在奮斗中，只有希望支持著他。

2.frustration n. 挫折，令人沮喪的東西

如：The cat sat in front of the bird cage in an agony of frustration at being so near and yet so far.
貓無可奈何地坐在鳥籠前，眼看著鳥兒近在咫尺，可怎么也夠不著。

It's healthier to release frustration than to bottle it up.
受挫折后發泄一通比強忍著對身體有益。

3.contemplation n. 注視，沉思，打算

如：She seemed lost in contemplation.
她似乎已陷入渾然忘我的沉思中。

Each morning the priest spent an hour in quiet contemplation.
每天早晨神父靜靜地沉思一小時。

4.dwell vi. 居住，存在，冥想，詳細闡述

如：Don't dwell on past failures.
不要老是想著過去的失敗。

How his words dwell in my mind!
他的一席話在我的腦海里經久難忘。

5.constructive adj. 建設性的，構造上的，作圖的

如：I can not figure out why they ridicule this constructive suggestion.
我弄不懂他們為什麼嘲笑這一建設性建議。

It was regrettable that such great issues had to be the thrust and parry of a general election. But at least the debate should be constructive.
如此重大的問題不得不成為大選中人們激烈辯論的議題，這很令人遺憾。可這場辯論至少應該是建設性的。
