國最大企業中石化(Sinopec)前負責人陳同海被判死緩,罪名是他在執掌中石化的八年時間里共受賄2880萬美元（人民幣1.9573億余元).

從1999年到2007年他在試圖逃往境外時被拘留為止,陳同海擔任國有的中國石油化工集團公司（中石化）董事長.

根據公開記錄,昨天首次詳細披露的受賄總額,構成中國官員受賄金額最大的案件之一.據當地媒體報道，最大的單筆受賄金額,是去年宣判的一樁案件中,蘇州一位主管城建的副市長收受1200萬美元.蘇州是靠近上海的一個繁榮的工業城市.

China handed the former chairman of the second largest oil company, Sinopec, a suspended death sentence. He was convicted of taking nearly 10 million dollars in bribes. The company is Asia’s biggest oil refiner by volume. NPR’s Anthony Kuhn reports from Beijing.
In return for the 29 million dollars in bribes, Sinopec’s former chairman, Chen Tonghai allegedly doled out contracts, land transfers and other favors according to the official Xinhua news agency. The report did not reveal who bribed him. Suspended death sentences are usually commuted to life in prison. The son of a Chinese revolutionary, Chen was detained at the Beijing airport while trying to flee the country in June of 2007. The state-own Sinopec firm paid 7.2 billion dollars last month for the exploration firm Addax Petroleum. It was China’s largest overseas acquisition to date.
