A court in the United States has begun hearing the US Government case against the credit card companies Visa and Mastercard for alleged antitrust violations that limit competition.
Last Wednesday, a US judge ruled in a landmark anti-trust case that the software giant Microsoft should be broken in two to prevent it abusing its market power.
Still flushed from their victory in that case, US competition regulators are flexing their muscles for a battle with the credit card industry.
