1. It would be completely irresponsible and unethical to use drugs on people that had not been thoroughly tested on animals.
該句用了虛擬語(yǔ)氣，因?yàn)樽髡哒J(rèn)為藥品不經(jīng)動(dòng)物實(shí)驗(yàn)就用在人身上的可能性極小，因此可以看成是與現(xiàn)在事實(shí)相反的假設(shè)。注意本句沒(méi)有用到虛擬條件句的形式，但完全可以改成虛擬條件句：It would be completely irresponsible and unethical to use drugs on people if they had not been thoroughly tested on animals.
2. The famous example of thalidomide is a case for more animal testing, not less.
為了避免重復(fù)，less 后面省略了animal testing。 意為：“著名的薩立多胺的例子就說(shuō)明應(yīng)該對(duì)動(dòng)物進(jìn)行更多的試驗(yàn)，而不是更少.”
